What this stretch of coast offers
Río San Juan is a small fishing town on the north coast famous for the Gri-Gri lagoon — a mangrove boat trip to sea caves and a natural pool — and for Playa Grande, one of the most photographed beaches in the country, a wide stretch below dramatic cliffs a short drive from town. Cabrera sits a little further east along the same road, quieter still, with its own smaller beaches, cliffside villas and Playa Preciosa. The route from STI runs the Cordillera Septentrional pass toward Puerto Plata and Sosúa, then continues east past Cabarete on a coast road that narrows and slows through several small towns. Because most stays here are villas or boutique properties rather than branded resorts, we confirm the exact address or a pin before the driver leaves Santiago.
