What Sosúa is like

Sosúa is a small bay town split into two distinct sides: El Batey, the beachfront district with the restaurants, dive shops and beach-hotel cluster around Sosúa bay, and Los Charamicos, the older residential town across the highway. The bay itself is one of the more sheltered swimming and snorkeling spots on this coast, and the town has a long-standing dive-tourism base. The drive continues past Puerto Plata on the coast road, adding roughly 15–20 minutes to the Puerto Plata drive time, which is why Sosúa sits at a higher rate.
