Confirm the boat operator, boarding point and inclusions

Cayo Arena, also called Cayo Paraíso, is a boat-excursion destination reached from the northwest coast. For a departure through Punta Rucia, ask your excursion operator for its actual mainland reporting address, map pin and boarding instructions. A Punta Rucia hotel, a beach meeting point and a boat departure are not interchangeable destinations. Cayo Levantado Resort in the Samaná area is a different journey.

Check your excursion confirmation before arranging a separate vehicle. Ask where the package starts and ends, whether it includes hotel transport, and which parts you must reserve independently. A boat booking does not automatically include a car from Cibao International Airport (STI), and an airport road-transfer quote does not include the excursion. Send dispatch the confirmed mainland address and request the actual itinerary, vehicle availability and total in writing.

Road transfers from STI to Punta Rucia

Choose between an arrival-day excursion and an overnight stay

For an excursion after landing at STI, obtain the operator’s reporting time and latest acceptable arrival before confirming the road journey. Allow separately for leaving the aircraft, entry formalities, baggage, customs, meeting the driver, driving and reporting for the boat. A published Punta Rucia driving estimate is only the road portion. Flight tracking helps coordinate the vehicle; it does not reserve a place on a later boat or hold a departure.

Compare that plan with reaching accommodation first and visiting on another day. If the excursion depends on an immediate airport exit and the shortest drive, an overnight stay gives you a different starting point to assess. Confirm the room, luggage acceptance and next pickup with the property and dispatch. A departure from a Santiago hotel is a separately quoted itinerary, not the same booking as STI airport pickup. No universal connection interval is promised.

Tell both providers about every passenger, suitcase, stroller and mobility aid. Ask the excursion operator what may go aboard, how boarding works and whether it can arrange the assistance you need. Space in the road vehicle does not establish boat capacity or accessible boarding. If suitcases remain ashore, confirm a location that accepts your actual bags, its collection hours and who takes responsibility. Neither the beach nor a parked vehicle should be treated as included luggage storage.

Choose between explicitly agreed vehicle waiting and a separately confirmed later collection. Record the mainland meeting point, pickup window, contact method and conditions if the excursion returns earlier or later. Ask whether the requested arrangement can be provided and how it is priced. A one-way drop-off does not reserve the driver for the day. Keep the excursion and road confirmations available offline, with the final hotel address and a reachable contact for each service.

Plan what happens if the boat trip changes

Before departure, ask the excursion operator how it communicates a changed or cancelled sailing and what its booking conditions allow. Road access and marine operation are separate decisions: a vehicle confirmation does not establish that the boat excursion can proceed. If the operator changes the reporting point or date, contact dispatch before travelling and obtain a revised road itinerary. Do not assume one provider’s refund or rebooking terms apply to the other booking.

If your flight changes, notify dispatch and the excursion operator separately with the operating flight number, local arrival date and revised plan. Ask each to acknowledge its own arrangement. For an onward STI flight after the excursion, include returning ashore, regrouping, collecting stored bags, driving and the airline’s airport requirements. A normal mainland departure buffer does not cover that whole sequence. Consider a different excursion day when the connection leaves no realistic margin.
