When we recommend leaving Samaná or Las Terrenas

We recommend leaving 5 hours before your flight out of STI when coming from the Samaná peninsula. This is the longest domestic leg we run, crossing from the peninsula onto the mainland highway network before joining the route toward Santiago, and the peninsula roads themselves are narrower and slower than the Autopista Duarte. STI's small terminal clears quickly, so nearly all of the extra time is for the road itself and a genuine safety margin, since this is the one route where a delay is expensive in lost time rather than lost minutes. If you are starting from Las Galeras, the furthest point on the peninsula, or during hurricane-season rain, plan for the top end of the drive-time range or add more.

Luggage and bigger groups

This is a full highway crossing, so tell us the exact passenger and case count in advance. A group of six with full luggage for a multi-hour drive is a van booking, not an SUV, and we plan the vehicle ahead of pickup day.

Because of the distance, we avoid scheduling the most remote peninsula sections for the darkest pre-dawn hours where a later, still-comfortable pickup covers the same flight; tell us your flight time and we set the safest pickup that still makes it on time.
